Terms of Service

Last updated: 29 September 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern access to and use of VoltaPOS and related products at voltapay.co.za (“Volta”, “we”, “us”), including our websites, back office, Android POS and kitchen-display apps, Windows desktop POS, and related services (together, the “Services”).

By creating an account, installing our apps, or using the Services, you agree to these Terms on behalf of yourself and the organisation you represent. If you do not agree, do not use the Services. Our Privacy Policy explains how we process personal information.

1. Accounts and eligibility

You must provide accurate registration details and keep credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your organisation’s accounts and for granting staff only the access they need. The Services are intended for business use in South Africa and similar commercial settings.

2. Software licence

Subject to these Terms and a valid account, Volta grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use our official Android and Windows POS applications for your organisation’s legitimate operations. You may not reverse engineer, resell, rent, sublicense, or redistribute the apps except as we expressly allow. The Windows installer may present an end-user licence that incorporates these Terms.

Packaged apps may check for updates. Installing updates may be required for security or continued support.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Services unlawfully or to infringe others’ rights
  • Attempt to bypass security, licensing, quotas, or access controls
  • Probe, overload, or disrupt our infrastructure or other customers
  • Upload malware or misuse payment, loyalty, or personal information
  • Misrepresent affiliation with Volta

4. Your business data

You retain ownership of your products, sales, stock, and similar business content. You grant Volta a licence to host, process, and display that content solely to provide and improve the Services. For personal information of your customers and staff, you are typically the responsible party under POPIA; see our Privacy Policy and POPIA summary.

5. Hardware and local devices

Receipt printers, cash drawers, scanners, scales, and similar peripherals depend on your hardware, cabling, drivers, and local network. Volta does not warrant compatibility with every third-party device. Cash-drawer open pulses (where supported) are sent via ESC/POS through a configured printer connection.

6. Plans and fees

Paid plans, add-ons, and hardware purchases are described at signup or in your account. Fees for use of the Services, including paid plans and monthly add-ons, are billed one month in advance and are not billed in arrears. Fees are due as invoiced. We may change pricing with reasonable notice for renewals; continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance unless you cancel as allowed.

7. Disclaimer and liability

The Services are provided “as is” to the fullest extent permitted by South African law. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded (including for fraud or gross negligence where applicable).

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Volta’s total aggregate liability arising from the Services is limited to the fees you paid for Volta services in the three (3) months before the claim, or ZAR 1,000 if no such fees apply. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential loss, including lost profits, stock variance, or business interruption.

8. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Services and request account closure. We may suspend or terminate access for breach, non-payment, legal risk, or misuse. On termination, your licence to use our apps ends and you should uninstall them. Provisions that by nature should survive (including liability limits and governing law) continue to apply.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Courts with jurisdiction in South Africa may hear disputes, without limiting any non-waivable consumer rights.
